Building a fan base from scratch

As it turns out, thriving as an Indie musician is no easy task. I've been told I have two choices: rely on the fickle social network algorithms to push me forward, or build my own fan base. Now I consider myself a social human being, but not so much a social-network expert. Definitely not the viral kind. So I opted for the second choice.

If you are reading this after subscribing to my brand new fan list - welcome aboard! I have to say it's growing faster than I'd expected. So thank you for this show of trust and support. I'm planning some exciting things for the next few month, including the full release of my second album (!!!) very soon.

I'll tell you more about this album when the time comes, but in the meantime, let me just say that it's competely different from my first album. First off, about half the songs are in English. I don't know exactly why, but in recent years I've been writing more and more songs in English. It's not intended, it just seems to come out this way more often. You see, I'm belingual from birth, but Hebrew has always been the language of my heart. When I go back to the source, it's there. But English is the language I speak with my kid, and with some of my closest friends, and it's also the language I was immersed in during some of the most transformative moments in my adult life. In truth? It probably doesn't matter what language the song is in, because the emotion is in the music, in the voice. You get it either way. Right?

Another thing that's different about this album is the sound. I spent hours experimenting with samples, beats and sound design in the home studio, together with Hilly Boimel - my amazing friend and music collaborator (since we were only 16!!), who produced this album with me. I feel I was much braver in trying new things, and much more insistent on getting it exactly right. A song is done when it just feels right, like everything's in place. There were no commercial considerations, no aiming for any popular charts. And most importantly - no deadlines. This is why it took some years to complete. It was quite the journey. I'm not saying all future albums will be as intricate and experimental as this one, but if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing.

You can already listen to the four tracks of the album that have been released as singles: Find me in the water, Time, Undo (feat. Luca Ducceschi and Hilly Boimel), and Zocheret (Remembering).

The next single will be out in just two weeks! So stay tuned.

Cheers,

Talia
