My job is to help develop neurofeedback treatment for psychiatric disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you're into all that, look me up on linkedin :)
I love the science. I love the music. But here's the thing - I love to keep them separate.
My adventures in neuroscience began in Tel-Aviv University where I did my PhD in visual person perception - how we recognize people by the shape of their body and face. My main tool is the MRI, which generates images of the brain using a super strong magnetic field. With a method called functional MRI (fMRI) I can track activity inside a person's brain while they perform a task, like watching a video or matching images.
Fun fact - I completed my PhD around the same time of my debut album release (VERY busy year).
It was my first post-doctoral position that brought me to Italy, which turned out to be equally important to my musical career, as it sparked a dense period of writing. Nothing like the Italian alps to get you inspired, though that's just a tiny part of the story. The rest you'll find in the lyrics.
In 2018 I returned to Tel Aviv and began working on my second album. It has nothing to do with brain science, but everything to do with the brain. After all, that's where thoughts come from, it's where we see and hear and integrate it all, it's where memories take shape, and where emotions are interpreted.
So there you have it, my double life. How did it come to be?
I like to trace it back to my guitar teacher, to whom I turned for advice when trying to decide between brain studies and music school. He simply said "well if you want to do both, you could probably study brain sciences and make music on the side. I don't think you can study music and do brain science of the side". Nailed it.
